Join our team

North Devon Theatres’ Trust is a charity running the Queen’s Theatre, Barnstaple and the Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe, providing a wide-ranging artistic and community programme for the region.  We have an extensive education programme, with over 20,000 attendances every year, offering arts engagement opportunities to people of all ages.

As an Arts Council England (ACE) National Portfolio Organisation (NPO), we continue to demonstrate an absolute commitment to artistic excellence and ambition in our work.  We strive to nurture talent and promote an artistically led approach to diversity and we aim to be inspirational and forward thinking in our efforts to deliver ‘Great Art for Everyone’.

North Devon Theatres has a small friendly team working in a wide range of fields from Front of House to Marketing, Technical and Finance.

We have no staff vacancies at the moment but if you're interested in joining our busy team, keep checking this section for all our latest vacancies.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Trust’s Board sets the strategy for the organisation and delegates authority for all operational matters to the Executive.

We operate a rolling recruitment programme seeking Trustees with business, entrepreneurial and fundraising skills to join us in further developing this quality arts service for the community.

We are currently seeking a local solicitor and a surveyor or property manager to join the Board of Trustees. This is both an exciting and challenging time for the Trust and individuals with these skills will boost the already impressive portfolio of talents represented on the Board. Most people know us for running and managing the two theatres in Barnstaple and Ilfracombe but we do much more including a growing and comprehensive education and outreach service accessed by hundreds of children each week.

If you think you have the qualities we are looking for and are interested in applying, please contact Claire Thomson (PA to Director) in the first instance via  to find out about the next stages of our application process.

WORK EXPERIENCE

North Devon Theatres offers work experience placements to Key Stage 4 and Further Education students. Placements are usually for one week and offer experience in a variety of different departments and roles within the theatre.

Students on work experience placements with North Devon Theatres also have the opportunity to complete a Bronze Arts Award during their placement. The weeks we offer and the departments in which we are able to offer experience are determined by factors including our programme and the dates required by the majority of schools.

These placements are suitable for anyone with an interest in theatre administration and/or management and usually give an overview of marketing, programming, finance, technical, development and Front of House.

We are unable to offer actor training or any placements in our Cafe Bars as part of our work experience programme.

As part of their work experience placement, students have the opportunity to complete a Bronze Arts Award, a Level 1 national qualification. Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents: it's creative, valuable and accessible.

The award is made up of four parts…

Part A – DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS IN THE ARTS
For this section you will develop your skills in Arts Administration. You need to collect evidence of everything you do with our team e.g. take pictures, keep notes.

Part B – BE THE AUDIENCE
For this section you need to think back to an arts event or performance you have recently attended, review what you saw and then share your review with others.

Part C – RESEARCH SOMEONE IN THE ARTS
For this section you will find out more about an artist you admire. You will then create a timeline of this person’s career.

Part D – ARTS SKILLS SHARE
For this section you will lead a creative session. You will have time to plan this in advance and will then write a review about how you feel it went.

If you are interested in a placement, please email  with the following information:

• Your CV
• The dates that you require for your placement
• A brief letter detailing your background, interests, and what you hope to get out of a placement at North Devon Theatres.
