Education and the Theatres

The North Devon Theatres Trust does not simply present performances - it is deeply committed to developing a wider understanding and appreciation of the arts.

As part of this work - aimed at young and old alike - the Theatres run various schemes and activities to encourage people to find out more about the Theatres themselves; to become involved in performances; to meet players and performers; to take part, with the cast, in discussions about plays; to participate in workshops and other activities with theatre and dance companies.

We believe in helping young people realise their arts potential by gaining experience in our various schemes and projects. By participating in Make the Move Classes and our workshops, it is possible to get further involved in residencies, performances (including being selected for the junior cast in our professional pantomimes), theatre trips and work experiences.

These events are co-ordinated by our Education Officer, Carol Turner.

The 29th May 1961 Charitable Trust and The Elmgrant Trust are supporters of our 09/10 education programme.

With Musical Director Lee Baxendale and accompanist John MacDonald.

Write Stuff

Kids writing

Write Stuff

Poetry writing course for young people.

Whether it's penning poems for the page, writing words to be heard of reeling off some rollicking raps, these workshops will help young people release the poet within!

Fun, engaging workshop activities will fire up the imagination and provide the perfect opportunity to share and create some cracking poetry. Listen to some spoken word artists perform, read some poems, talk about them, share ideas in a fun and friendly setting and basically, write stuff!

Participants should bring a note book and pencil or pen. Please don't be put off if you don't think you are good enough at writing or spelling, this course is about imagination and playing with words.

There is no pressure to perform your work and it is hoped that there will be a subsequent exhibition of work displayed at the Landmark Theatre.

Wednesday 6, 20 October; 3, 10, 17 & 24 November
5 - 6pm (7-11 years)
