Weddings

Sitting snugly amongst the rugged cliffs of the majestic Atlantic Coast sits Ilfracombe - its charming natural harbour and elegant Victorian architecture continuing to make it as popular today as it has been since the 1830's.

The Landmark Theatre, overlooking the seafront, is North Devon's newest and finest Arts and Entertainment Complex and is the latest venue in North Devon to be granted a licence for civil marriage ceremonies. Open in 1998, the Landmark Theatre, with its unique conical towers, looks out across the Bristol Channel and the town of Ilfracombe. State-of-the-art lighting and acoustics in the theatre auditorium, which seats 483, can add to the romance of a wedding ceremony and couples can choose to marry on stage if they wish.

Within the Landmark complex is the Pavilion Room which has its own small stage and couples can marry in here if they prefer. The Pavilion is ideal for a reception; it can cater for a maximum of 120 people and has a flat floor space suitable for dancing.

The red carpet can be rolled out to the glass fronted entrance and the bridal car can pull right up outside the main entrance which is surrounded by landscaped gardens.

Our experienced team will be available to offer our full support and assistance.

Civil Wedding Ceremonies

The Landmark is licenced to hold wedding ceremonies either in the Landmark Pavilion or on the Theatre's stage.

For civil weddings, you should approach your local Superintendent Registrar, who will need to agree with you the date, time and location for your wedding. You may need to spend some time securing dates when all the people concerned with your wedding can be certain of attending. For example, a civil ceremony involves not only the Superintendent Registrar responsible for the preliminary paperwork and for conducting the ceremony but also the attendance of the Registrar of Marriages. This officer will record the event in the official Marriage Register and will provide you and your partner with the all important Marriage Certificate. Only if these people are available at the same time on the date you wish to marry can the event take place.

Remember, if you have chosen a location for the wedding in an area in which neither of you live, you will need to make contact with the Superintendent Registrar there too.

If you would like to know more about this type of ceremony, please view the Devon County Council website.
