Dance with us ... ballet

Classical dance for toddlers to teens. RAD examinations available from pre-school curriculum to Grade 8.

Students have had the opportunity to participate in workshops with Moscow Ballet; English National Ballet; Independent Ballet Wales; Ballet Boyz and others.

No experience is necessary; all students are graded according to age and experience.


Tutors 

Sally Baddick – RAD Registered Teacher
Sally trained at the Portland Dance Academy in North Devon and was mentored and coached by the late Esme Preston as her ballet teaching assistant from 1975 until 1980.

In 1982 Sally formed her own dancing school ‘Demi-Dance School’ which gave local children the opportunity to study many aspects of dance. Her passion has always been  teaching ballet enabling students to progress through their examinations grades to vocational level. As principle of The Demi-Dance School Sally also devised and produced successful bi-annual show productions from which all proceeds were donated to local charities.

In 1995 Sally trained as a grades examiner for The Royal Academy of Dance, she was successful and regularly travels worldwide to examine. She is also a mentor on the C.B.T.S teaching programme.

In 2006 Sally became a freelance ballet teacher and joined the North Theatres Trust ‘Make The Move’ as a dedicated ballet teacher.

Kirstie Johnson
Kirstie began dancing aged 3 at the Demi Dance School in Ilfracombe. Taking many examinations in tap and ballet she successfully passed her Pre-Elementary Vocational examination in London aged 12. After a course in Theatre Studies, Kirstie performed in many local productions as a dancer directed by Pamela Beecham with Ilfracombe Pantomime Society. Kirstie's first professional engagement was with Steve Shappelle’s summer season of Beauty and the Beast alongside Vicky Michelle and Emma Barton. After taking time out to start her family, Kirstie studied Law before changing direction and undertaking her dance teacher training with Deborah Bond.

Now the proud mum of 3 boisterous young boys Kirstie balances her home life with teaching ISTD modern theatre and juggling the class administration for North Devon Theatres' Make the Move.

Donella Woolmer
Donella is an ex- professional Ballet dancer, who enjoys teaching and choreographing as a way of passing 

on her performance experience to the next generation of dancers!  She is a Ballet Associate of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), and completed her vocational training at Bird College.

On graduating in 1982 Donella performed with a small , London based contemporary dance company, before joining the Kiel Ballett (a classical company in North Germany) in 1983.  The next 12 years were spent living in Germany and dancing in three different Ballet companies. In 1995 Donella retired from performing and taught ISTD Ballet at Bird College and at The Liz Burville Dance centre until 2000, when she moved to North Devon .

Donella began teaching Ballet (Royal Academy of Dancing  syllabus) at Make The Move in September 2007 and recently enjoyed choreographing pieces for their 2015 Show.
